Since you are spending your hard earned money to buy or rent a home, it is up to you to make sure you are getting good value. It won't be worth it to get a great deal on a home in a location that you really wouldn't want to spend much time in anyway. And the best locations tend to have the highest costs, such as taxes and utilities.
